Does shift in developmental mindset, help to fasten Gross National Happiness and Sustainable Development Goals? The question on how mindset is defined and how does it matter in developmental change in the fast-moving world is a challenge. The mindset is a set of believe and attitude toward welfare of the people. The development mindsets can be either fixed or growth mindset. The fixed mindset is a risk averse and often defensive. As per the research done by Standford University psychologist Carol Dweck said that the fixed mindset people believed in their basic qualities such as intelligence and talent but does not develop them. The growth mindset are the people who developed through hard work and dedication through constant effort. They are also open minded, who learn from the failures. They are more focused group considered to be the potential to wiser and sustainable growth.
The growth mindset in the efficiency for GNH and SDGs. In the context of shifting developmental mindset it is the question on; Is it the mindset of the people that should change in order to develop or when countries develop, the mindset of people change? It’s very important that the mindset of the people should change for the country through constant development. The climate change is a genuineness, the sustainable development often in GNH context; holistic development does need a growth mindset. The outdated way of thinking would only mean that a country develops but with no welfare for its people. It’s when individuals and decision maker find balances between qualitative and quantitative outcome. It’s time to realize the value of holistic approach not extending to the greed of the nation but for the need.
The growth mindset discourages the excessive focus on Gross Domestic product. Sadguru in his book titled Inner engineering says “Past 150 years, no royalty has ever enjoyed like we do now. technology has changed everything. We have everything but still not happy. It's time to look ourselves.” GDP was a better way to measure country’s development as it quantifies easily but at the end one’s wellbeing matter the most, which GDP failed to explain. So, changing mindset, a way to achieve GNH and Sustainable goal is prudent in development in any nation. It is where a country or an individual should reflect put things on priority for sustainability.
The practical tips needed to change the mindset for progress is to be curious. Always finding the thirst for learning through various ways such as reading, meditation and reflecting on self-development. It is also to be responsible human; an attitude of sharing and spreading love considered as an essential tool to combat climatic or developmental challenges.
Lastly, shifting mindset is personal change and a challenge that would have impact on a large community that one lives in. For a person to achieve happiness or any resources to be sustainable, the first way is to change the attitude and behavior for better cause. Last thousand years people run for money and power that resulted in destroying the natural environment. Now is the time for paradigm shift. The growth mindset is the way to achieve GNH and SDGs efficiently, faster, and in a better and wiser way.
